Set Up and Use Two-Factor Authentication

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Link My Books account.

After signing in, you’ll enter a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone. This helps protect your account even if someone else knows your password.

How to Enable 2FA

You can enable 2FA anytime from your account settings.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings → Security

  2. Click Set up two-factor authentication

  3. Scan the QR code using an authenticator app on your phone.

  4. Enter the 6-digit code from the app to confirm setup.

  5. Save your backup codes in a safe place — you will need them if you lose access to your phone.

Backup codes allow you to sign in if you lose access to your phone.

Authenticator apps you can use

  • Google Authenticator

  • Microsoft Authenticator

  • Authy

  • iPhone built-in authenticator (Passwords app)

iPhone users

If you scan the QR code using your iPhone camera, iOS may automatically save the code in the Passwords app instead of a separate authenticator.

You can find your verification code here:

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap Passwords

  3. Search for Link My Books

  4. View the Verification Code, which refreshes every 30 seconds

If you prefer using another authenticator app, open that app first and use its Scan QR Code / Add Account feature.

Signing In with 2FA

If 2FA is enabled, you will see a verification step after signing in.

Steps

  1. Sign in to Link My Books

  2. Open your authenticator app

  3. Enter the 6-digit code shown in the app

  4. Click Verify

Optional:

You can select Remember this device for 30 days to skip verification on that device.

Using a Backup Code

If you don’t have access to your authenticator app, you can sign in with a backup code.

Steps

  1. On the verification page click Use a backup code instead

  2. Enter one of your backup codes

Important

  • Each code can only be used once

  • You receive 8 backup codes during setup

If you use your last backup code, you’ll be asked to set up 2FA again.

Disable 2FA

You can disable 2FA at any time.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings → Security

  2. Click Disable under Two-Factor Authentication

  3. Enter your authenticator code to confirm

Generate New Backup Codes

If you lose your backup codes, you can generate new ones.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings → Security

  2. Click Regenerate backup codes

  3. Enter your authenticator code

  4. Save the new backup codes

Note: Generating new codes invalidates the previous ones immediately.

Troubleshooting

I lost access to my authenticator app

Try signing in with a backup code. If you don’t have backup codes, contact Link My Books Support so we can help restore access.

My code isn’t working

Common causes:

  • The code has expired (codes refresh every ~30 seconds)

  • Your phone time is out of sync

  • You entered the previous code

Try generating a new code in the app and entering it again.

Security Notes

  • After 5 failed attempts, login attempts are temporarily blocked for 5 minutes

  • Trusted devices can skip verification for 30 days

  • Backup codes are single-use
