Sharing your accounts with a Team using a Magic Link

How team owners can create a Magic Link to invite clients to share accounts with a team, and how clients use the link to join and share their accounts.

Written by Daniel Little

A Magic Link lets a Team owner or admin invite a client to share their accounts with the team, without needing to know the client's account details in advance. The client opens the link, signs in (or registers), and chooses which of their own accounts to share — all in a couple of clicks.

Step 1: Team owner or admin — create and share the link

  1. Go to Settings → Teams, open the relevant team, and click the Magic Links tab (owner/admin only).

  2. Click Create Magic Link.

  3. Set Expires in (days) — this defaults to 7 and can be set up to a maximum of 365.

  4. Click Create Link.

  5. Click Copy and send the link to your client. It will look like: https://app.linkmybooks.com/teams/join/<token>

A single Magic Link is reusable — more than one client can use the same link to join and share accounts, right up until it expires. If you need to disable it early, open the Magic Links tab and click Revoke.

Step 2: Account owner / client — join the team and share accounts

  1. Open the link you were sent. If you're not already signed in, you'll be asked to sign in or register — you'll be returned to the link automatically afterwards.

  2. You'll land on the Account Sharing page, where a Manage team access: [Team name] window opens listing your own accounts.

  3. Tick at least one account, then click Save Changes.

  4. You'll see a confirmation that you've successfully joined the team and shared your accounts.

You stay the account owner. Sharing an account with a team doesn't hand over ownership — it simply allows that team to work on the account alongside you in Link My Books.

Step 3: Sharing more accounts, or stopping sharing later

You don't need a new Magic Link to make changes later. As the account owner, go to Settings → Account Sharing → Manage Access to:

  • Add or remove which accounts are shared with a team

  • Click Revoke All Access to stop sharing every account with that team at once
