When setting up your Link My Books account, you’ll need to choose the right user type. This ensures you have the correct permissions and workflow for your situation.
We support two main user types:
1. Ecommerce Business
Who this is for:
You’re the owner (or manager) of your ecommerce business and you want to connect Link My Books directly to your accounts.
How it works:
You’ll connect your own sales channels (Amazon, Shopify, eBay, Etsy, TikTok, etc.) using your main account credentials.
You’ll then connect your accounting software (Xero or QuickBooks).
You'll complete the guided setup wizard or you can invite your accountant to help you.
Why this option is for you:
Most sales channel integrations only allow the primary account holder (the main account credentials) to connect apps like Link My Books. As the business owner, you have the right access to do this.
2. Accountant or Bookkeeper
Who this is for:
You manage the accounts for clients who sell on ecommerce platforms.
How it works:
You’ll set up a Link My Books account for your client.
You’ll connect their accounting software (Xero or QuickBooks) so you can manage the bookkeeping side.
Your client will then be invited to connect their sales channels (Amazon, Shopify, eBay, etc.) using their main account credentials.
Once your client completes the connections, you'll complete the guided setup wizard.
Why this option is for you:
As an accountant or bookkeeper, you typically don’t have the client’s main login details for their sales channels. Since only the main account holder can grant app access, we’ve designed the setup so your client connects their channels securely, while you handle the accounting setup.
Why We Separate User Types
Ecommerce platforms (like Amazon and Shopify) only allow apps to be connected using the main account credentials. Accountants and bookkeepers usually don’t have this level of access—so we’ve built Link My Books to support a collaborative setup:
The ecommerce business connects sales channels.
The accountant/bookkeeper connects the accounting software.
Together, you get automated, accurate bookkeeping with minimal hassle.
✅ Tip: Not sure which option fits you?
