Spot trends and cost ratios instantly in your new Financial Analytics view

Written by Ruth Buan
Updated over a week ago

This article explains two new ways to view your Profit & Loss (P&L) data in Financial Analytics:

  • Growth Trend – see how each line is growing or shrinking compared to the previous period.

  • Revenue % – see each expense as a percentage of your total revenue.

You can switch between these views using a simple toggle on the Financial Analytics page. This helps you quickly understand how your business is performing over time and how much of your revenue is being spent on different costs.

Who this article is for

This article is for:

  • Sellers who use Link My Books Financial Analytics to review their P&L.

  • Anyone who wants to understand:

    • Whether their revenue and costs are going up or down over time.

    • How much of their revenue is being consumed by fees and other expenses.

  • Bookkeepers and accountants supporting sellers who use Link My Books.

What this new feature does

Overview

On the Financial Analytics page, you can now choose how your P&L data is displayed:

  • Default – shows your usual currency amounts only.

  • Growth Trend – shows the percentage change compared to the previous period.

  • Revenue % – shows expenses as a percentage of total revenue.

Only one of these percentage views can be active at a time, so the screen stays clear and easy to read.

Where you'll see it

You'll see the new toggle and percentage badges in:

  • The Financial Analytics → Overview tab (P&L Statement sidebar).

  • The Financial Analytics → P&L by Channel tab.

At the top of the P&L section, you'll see a small toggle with three options:

  • Default

  • Growth Trend

  • Revenue %

Downloading Financial Analytics reports

You can download your Financial Analytics data for offline use:

Important: The Overview PDF download captures exactly what is currently displayed on your screen — including your selected channels, date range, and any active filters. If you have multiple sales channels and want all of them in the PDF, make sure all channels are selected before downloading. You may need to download multiple PDFs if you want different channel combinations.

How to find the new options in Link My Books

Step 1 – Go to Financial Analytics

  1. Log in to your Link My Books account.

  2. From the main navigation, go to Financial Analytics.

Step 2 – Choose your tab

You can use the new views in two places:

  • Overview tab – to see your overall P&L statement.

  • P&L by Channel tab – to see performance broken down by sales channel.

Click the tab you want to work with.

Step 3 – Select your date range

  1. Use the date range selector at the top of the page.

  2. Choose the period you want to review (for example, last month, last quarter, custom dates).

  3. Update/apply the date range.

This date range is used for both:

  • The current period you're looking at.

  • The previous period that Growth Trend will compare against.

Using Growth Trend mode

What Growth Trend shows

Growth Trend helps you see how each line item is changing compared to the previous period of the same length. For example:

  • If you're looking at December, it compares to November.

  • If you're looking at a 90‑day range, it compares to the previous 90‑day range.

For each row, you'll see:

  • A small badge with:

    • An arrow (↑ or ↓)

    • A percentage (for example, ↑ 12.3%)

Colours:

  • Green – a positive movement.

  • Red – a negative movement.

  • For expense lines (for example, fees, refunds), the meaning is reversed:

    • A decrease in expenses shows in green (good – you're spending less).

    • An increase in expenses shows in red (warning – you're spending more).

How to turn on Growth Trend

  1. Go to Financial Analytics.

  2. Select the Overview or P&L by Channel tab.

  3. Choose your date range and update.

  4. Above the table, click Growth Trend in the toggle.

You'll now see:

  • Your usual currency amounts.

  • A small colored badge next to each line showing the percentage change.

Understanding the Growth Trend badge

Each badge compares the current period to the previous period. For example:

  • ↑ 15.0% on Revenue

    • Your revenue has increased by 15% compared to the previous period.

  • ↓ 8.4% on an expense line

    • That expense is down by 8.4% compared to the previous period.

When you hover over the badge, a tooltip appears showing:

  • The current value.

  • The previous value.

  • The difference between them.

This helps you see the exact numbers behind the percentage, without doing the maths yourself.

Using Revenue % mode

What Revenue % shows

Revenue % helps you understand your cost structure – how much of your total revenue is being used by different expense categories.

For each expense line (for example, marketplace fees, shipping, advertising), you'll see:

  • A percentage that shows how much of total revenue that expense represents (for example, 8.4%).

  • A small grey badge or a clearly separate percentage label, so you can easily tell it apart from the main currency amount.

Example:

  • Total revenue: £1,000

  • Fee line: £200

  • Revenue %: 20%

On screen, this may look like: £200 (20%).

How to turn on Revenue %

  1. Go to Financial Analytics.

  2. Select the Overview or P&L by Channel tab.

  3. Choose your date range and update.

  4. Above the table, click Revenue % in the toggle.

You'll now see:

  • Your usual currency amounts.

  • A percentage next to expense rows showing their share of total revenue.

Special cases you might notice

  • If your revenue is £0 in the selected period:

    • Revenue % will show 0% or for that row.

    • This avoids confusing "infinite" percentages when there is no revenue.

Switching between views

Available modes

At any time, you can choose between:

  • Default – currency amounts only, no percentages.

  • Growth Trend – shows percentage change vs previous period.

  • Revenue % – shows expenses as a percentage of revenue.

How the toggle works

  • Only one percentage view can be active at once:

    • If you click Growth Trend, any Revenue % details will be hidden.

    • If you click Revenue %, any Growth Trend badges will be hidden.

  • Click Default to return to a clean view with just the currency amounts.

What happens when you change tabs

If you switch between:

  • Overview

  • P&L by Channel

Link My Books will remember the mode you last selected. For example:

  • If you select Growth Trend on Overview, then switch to P&L by Channel, you'll still see Growth Trend active there.

This makes it easy to compare the same type of view across different sections without re‑selecting it each time.

What emails or notifications will I receive?

This feature works entirely inside the Financial Analytics page:

  • There are no separate emails or in‑app notifications sent as part of using the Growth Trend or Revenue % views.

  • Everything you need is displayed directly on the Overview and P&L by Channel tabs.

Tips for using these views effectively

When to use Growth Trend

Use Growth Trend when you want to:

  • See whether revenue is growing or shrinking month-on-month.

  • Quickly spot worrying cost increases or positive cost reductions.

  • Compare performance across channels over time.

When to use Revenue %

Use Revenue % when you want to:

  • Understand your profitability drivers.

  • See which expenses are taking up the biggest share of your revenue.

  • Compare cost structure across different channels (for example, which marketplace has higher fees as a percentage of revenue).
