Transferring Ownership of a Link My Books Account

How to transfer the ownership of your Link My Books account to another person (for example, to an accountant, a new business partner, or a different email address)

Written by Donna Walker

💡 Quick summary

An ownership transfer moves an account and its connected sales channels from one owner to another. It is a self-serve process — the current owner starts it and the new owner accepts. It does not move billing: the new owner is billed under their own login, and the previous owner's subscription stays as it is.

When would I need an ownership transfer?

Common scenarios include:

  • You are an accountant or bookkeeper taking over management of a client's Link My Books account

  • A business is changing hands and the new owner needs to take over the existing Link My Books setup and data

  • A team member who originally set up the account has left the company and you need to move ownership and access to a different person

  • You want to move your account to a different email address (e.g. from a personal email to a business email)

How the transfer works

This is a self-serve process — there's no need to contact support to do it.

1. The new owner must have a Link My Books account

The person receiving the account needs to have an existing Link My Books user account. If they don't have one yet, they can create one for free by visiting our homepage and selecting Log In - then sign in with Google, Xero, or Intuit (QuickBooks). They do not need to connect a channel or subscribe to a paid plan, just simply login.

2. The current owner starts the transfer, and the new owner accepts

The current owner starts the transfer from within their own Link My Books account. The new owner then accepts it. Once accepted, the account and all its connected sales channels move across to the new owner automatically.

⚠️ If the current owner is unavailable (for example, they have left the company) and the transfer cannot be started from their account, please contact our support team to discuss alternative verification options.

What happens to billing

Billing does not move with the account. The new owner is billed under their own login after accepting — a free trial if they are new to Link My Books, or the account is simply added to their existing plan if they already pay. The previous owner's subscription is untouched by the transfer, and they can cancel or downgrade it themselves at any time from their own billing page.
