Link My Books for AI assistants (MCP) — coming soon

Connect Claude or ChatGPT to your Link My Books account. Join the beta list.

Written by Peter Moran

What is it?

We're building a secure connection that lets an AI assistant, such as Claude, work with your Link My Books account. It uses an open standard called MCP (Model Context Protocol), which AI assistants use to connect to other apps.

Once it's connected, you can ask your assistant questions in plain English, like "Which of last month's Amazon settlements haven't been sent to Xero yet?" or "Which of my products have no cost price?". The assistant then looks up the answer in your account.

Is it available now?

Not yet. We're opening it up in stages, beginning with a small private beta. It isn't available in your Link My Books settings yet, and we can't share a connection address before your account is included. If you'd like to be one of the first to try it, join the beta list (see below).

What will it be able to do?

This is what we're building for the first version. Exact features can change during the beta.

Look things up (read-only)

  • List your settlements and open any one of them, including its history, its breakdown and the invoices it created.

  • See your account and tax code mappings, and which codes are available in your accounting software.

  • See your products (SKUs), product groups and their cost prices (COGS).

  • See your account settings.

Make changes (always shown to you first)

  • Update product cost prices.

  • Update account code and tax code mappings, including the ones for product groups.

  • Refresh a settlement, send a settlement to Xero or QuickBooks, or roll one back.

Before any change is made, the assistant shows you exactly what will change, and nothing happens until it's confirmed. You choose what the assistant is allowed to do when you connect it. You can let it only read, or also let it make changes.

Which AI assistants will work with it?

We're building it for Claude first (claude.ai, Claude Desktop and Claude Code). We're also testing ChatGPT and other assistants, and we'll confirm which ones work before the beta opens to more people.

How do I join the beta list?

  1. Fill in the short MCP beta sign-up form. It takes about 3 minutes.

  2. We ask how you'd use it. If you're not sure what to write, copy this prompt into your AI assistant and it will help you draft your answers.

  3. We'll contact you when there's a place for you. We're adding people gradually, so it may be a little while.

You don't need to contact support as well. The form is all we need.

A prompt to help you fill in the form

Paste this into Claude, ChatGPT or another AI assistant. Don't paste any passwords, login details, bank details or financial figures into the assistant or into the form. We don't need them.

I'm applying for the beta of the Link My Books MCP server. It will let an AI assistant like you look up and update my Link My Books account. Link My Books posts my sales channel payouts, such as Amazon, Shopify and eBay, into my accounting software as settlements.

Ask me a few short questions, one at a time, about how I use Link My Books today: which sales channels I sell on, which accounting software I use (Xero or QuickBooks), what my month-end or VAT routine looks like, and where I lose the most time or make mistakes.

Then draft short answers (3–5 sentences each) to these three form questions:
1. What would you use the Link My Books MCP for?
2. Describe your best-case scenario.
3. Give a concrete example of a question or task you'd hand to your assistant.

Don't ask me for passwords, login details, bank details or real financial figures, and don't include any in the answers.
