Join the beta program: Sync Shopify “Cost per item” into Link My Books

Written by Ruth Buan
Updated this week

You can now have your product costs from Shopify synced directly into Link My Books. This helps keep your cost of goods sold (COGS) and profit reports accurate without needing to update everything manually.

Note: This feature is run by the Link My Books team. If you’d like it enabled or run for your account, just contact Support.

What this feature does

This feature pulls the “Cost per item” from your Shopify products and updates the matching SKUs in Link My Books.

This is the amount you paid your supplier, not what you charge your customers.

In Shopify, you’ll find it here:

Shopify Admin → Products → [choose a product] → [choose a variant] → “Cost per item”

Once enabled for your account, we can sync those costs into your Link My Books SKU records so your COGS and profit figures use the latest numbers from Shopify.

Which price is synced?

We only sync “Cost per item” from Shopify.

We do not sync:

  • Product selling price

  • Sale / compare-at price

  • Any B2B prices

  • Regional or market-specific prices

So this feature affects your costs and profit reporting, not your sales or revenue numbers.

What you’ll see after a sync

When our team runs the sync for you, we’ll see your variants grouped into a few categories. If needed, we can share a summary so you know what happened.

Typical results:

  • Updated – SKUs where the cost in Link My Books was changed to match Shopify

  • Unchanged – SKUs where the cost already matched Shopify

  • Unmatched – Shopify variants we couldn’t match to any SKU in Link My Books (for example, missing or different SKU codes)

  • Skipped (No Cost) – Variants in Shopify that don’t have a “Cost per item” set

  • Skipped (No SKU / No Title) – Variants missing key details needed to match them correctly

Why this is useful

Keeping costs in sync between Shopify and Link My Books means:

  • More accurate COGS – Your cost of goods sold reflects your real purchase costs

  • Better profit reporting – Profit per product and overall margins are more reliable

  • Less manual work – No need to keep updating SKU costs by hand in two places

This is especially helpful if you regularly update supplier prices or add a lot of new products and variants.

How to use this feature for your account

At the moment, this feature is only available for the Link My Books Admin and Support team to run.

If you’d like to:

  • Turn this on for your account, or

  • Have us run a one-off or regular sync of your Shopify costs

What you can do to get the best results

To make sure the sync works smoothly:

  • Use SKU codes consistently in Shopify and Link My Books

  • Set “Cost per item” in Shopify for all products and variants you care about

  • Avoid leaving important products with:

    • No SKU

    • No “Cost per item”

    • Very different names between Shopify and Link My Books

If you’re unsure whether your current setup is ready, Support can take a quick look and advise.
