Settlement cannot be posted to a closed accounting period

This error appears when your accounting software has locked the accounting period, preventing Link My Books from posting transactions dated within that period.

What this error means

You may see an error like:

  • Date cannot be before the end of year lock date

  • Lock date error

  • Period Lock Date Error

  • Account Period Closed

This means your accounting software has a locked accounting period, so Link My Books cannot post settlements dated before that lock date.

Why this happens

This usually happens when your accountant has finalised the accounts for that period and locked it to prevent further changes.

This is common after:

  • month-end close

  • year-end close

  • financial statements being finalised

Because of this restriction, the accounting platform blocks any new transactions in that period.

How to resolve it

To send the settlements successfully:

  • Speak with your accountant to temporarily unlock the accounting period.

  • Send the settlements again from Link My Books.

  • If necessary, your accountant can adjust the dates on the entries once they have posted.

This is a normal step after financial periods are closed, so your accountant should be able to unlock and relock the period quickly.
