Incomplete tax or account codes error on Link My Books

Written by Ruth Buan

What this error means

The error “Incomplete Tax or Account Codes” appears when Link My Books tries to post a settlement but required tax or account mappings have not been fully configured.

Link My Books relies on mapped accounts and tax codes to correctly create transactions in your accounting software. If one or more of these mappings are missing, the posting cannot proceed.

Why this happens

Common reasons include:

  • Some required accounts have not been mapped in Link My Books

  • A tax rate required for settlement posting has not been selected

  • Mappings were removed or changed after the initial setup

This configuration must be completed in Link My Books, using accounts and tax rates from your chart of accounts in Xero or QuickBooks.

How to resolve it

You will need to review and complete the missing mappings in Link My Books.

  1. Log in to Link My Books

  2. Go to Accounts & Taxes > Account and Taxes Wizard

  3. Review each required account and tax code field

  4. Select the appropriate accounts and tax rates from your accounting software

  5. Save the changes

  6. Retry posting the settlement

If you are unsure which accounts or tax codes should be used, consult your accountant or review your chart of accounts.

Note that completing the wizard will override any previous accounts & tax mappings you have chosen so if you may wish to adjust only the missing or incorrect accounts or tax rates directly on the Account & Taxes Mapping page rather than the wizard.

When to contact support

Contact Link My Books support if:

  • All mappings appear complete but the error still occurs

  • You are unsure which accounts or tax codes should be selected

  • The settlement continues to fail after updating the mappings
